My Sister Susan's House [c. 2010]

My Sister Susan's House is a Health and Human Services licensed, 5000-square-foot LEED home for teenage moms in Greensboro, NC. This project was heralded as “community transforming” and inaugurated by U.S. Senator Kay Hagan in 2010. 150 students enrolled in three vertical studios, under the direction of Professor Charest, participated in all facets of the design-build. From forming footings to fabricating cabinetry, students [predominantly women] diligently crafted the award-winning dwelling. This project was built in partnership with Youth Focus [A United Way Agency] and funded through the North Carolina Funding Agency.  photos by John Read ©
